This year, we decided to visit Grand Teton NP and Yellowstone NP. We flew from Brussels via Schiphol directly to Salt Lake City on board Delta Airlines. Upon arrival in Salt Lake City, the city’s heat immediately overwhelmed us. It was no less than 45 degrees Celsius, and combined with the jetlag, you can imagine that we didn’t do much on the first day besides enjoying an Italian dinner at Caffé Molise and going to bed early. On our second day, we were already awake at 5 am and decided to explore the surroundings of Salt Lake City. In the […]

We are startled from our thoughts when the internal communication system spits out four letters: b-e-ar, b-e-ar, b-e-ar, b-e-ar. Spitsbergen, June 2014 Introduction Because we had a special wedding anniversary to celebrate this year, we decided to make our annual vacation a bit more special. My wife wanted to see penguins and opted for Antarctica, but I was more inclined towards an encounter with Ursus Maritimus, literally the sea bear. However, we know it better by its more popular names – polar bear or ice bear. The polar bear is one of the largest land predators in the world, […]

In May, we embarked on a short trip to Finland with the primary goal of photographing brown bears in their natural habitat. After some research and tips from fellow photographers, we booked our photography expedition directly with the Martinselkonen Wildlife Centre. Day 1: Flight to Kajaani, Finland We flew with Finnair, connecting through Helsinki, before finally landing in Kajaani. Upon arrival, our guide picked us up and led us through the Finnish taiga forests to Pirttivaara, which is 160 kilometers from Kajaani. The base for our bear excursion was an old Russian border post, transformed into a basic yet […]

Post's featued image.

In March, we embarked on a five-day trip to Iceland. The outbreak of the 2008 financial crisis led to a devaluation of the Icelandic currency, making travel to this special destination much more affordable. We booked through Askja Reizen, which offers a special tour in their lineup to explore the southern part of Iceland with a rental car. If you visit Iceland during our winter months, keep in mind that many interior roads, which provide faster connections between the north and south, are closed to regular cars. The Ring Road 1, which encircles the entire island, remains open throughout […]

To our surprise, while on the way to Banff through the forest, we immediately encountered a black bear. We stopped instantly to take pictures, and in no time at all, the area was filled with cars. Period: July Temperature: 15 – 22 C° Day 1 – Calgary After a 9-hour flight, we arrived in Calgary, where we immediately picked up our rental car. However, it turned out they had no GPS systems in stock; they promised to deliver one in Banff. This wasn’t the best news after a long day. Our biological clock was already showing midnight, even though it […]
